Why don't my images show up?
One of two reasons. One, you haven't downloaded the images, and you've left the image links the way they are. You need to go through the HTML and change the bits where you see <img src="blah.jpg"> to the url where the image is (on your server!). It must end in a .jpg or a .gif or it will not work. Alternatively, you have noticed the images do not work, and have altered the urls to point to the ones here at RP Designs on the sample page. Due to bandwidth problems, I have had to add a .htaccess file which disallows remote linking which sucks up bandwidth like nothing on earth, and costs me extra. To solve this problem, download the images (either by downloading the zip file or by right clicking on the images. However, on a few of my layouts, I have used a table of images and it would probably be easier to get all of them by downloading the zip.
Where can I find some image hosts?
Ranchoweb has recently made it's services chargable, so there aren't many others
available. One that comes recommended is Village
Photos which lets you upload up to 25 images. However, there is no guarantee that
they won't decide to start charging for space also. If you are willing to pay for
hosting, I can offer space here at Raging Pistachio Designs for $1 a month or $10 a year,
payable by Paypal (if you have credit in a paypal account already), alternately I accept
gifts from Amazon. If you would like image hosting here, please
send an email and ask! State whether
you would like to pay via PayPal, or by sending me a gift. Thank you.
Also, you could buy a Gold Membership from Diaryland (if you are a Diaryland User), and
you get the added benefits of stats, comments, and supporting the whole community! So
there you go, lots of options for you.
Do I need to know any HTML to use a design from your site?
You need to have a little HTML knowledge, basically to change links and image urls. I set
up my designs using the same presets, so you might need to add/remove links, or change the
urls to point to a guestbook that's not hosted on signmyguestbook, or if your guestbook
username isn't the same as your diary username. You will also need to change the image
links so they point to where you are hosting them, but if you are happy with all the text
links, that should be it. You may NOT remove the link to Raging Pistachio Designs, or any
image links that point to the place I took the image from.
Can I change the colours, images and links on your designs for my diary?
You may change them if you feel confident not to screw everything up. If you do change
anything I would appreciate it if you let me know (via notes or email) so I can check out
the modification. You may, if you do alter the design slightly, put a little note on the
design saying "Modified by me", but you must still have the link to Raging
Pistachio Designs there, unless you have changed the design so that I can no longer
recognise it as one of my original works. If you're unsure about this, email me with your
diary's URL, and I'll have a look and let you know if I feel you should or shouldn't take
the link back to me down.
Do I have to have a diary hosted at Diaryland to use your designs?
No, you don't, but I code my designs to fit Diaryland users. People using other hosts,
be it Diary-x, livejournal, geocities, angelfire, etc etc may use my designs, but you have
to be willing to change the code to fit your host. This does not mean you can remove the
link to Raging Pistachio Designs.
So when can I remove the link to your site?
When your diary's design no longer resembles the one I originally made.
Will you do a custom design for me free of charge?
Sorry, but no. I have a job outside of this site, which isn't very highly paid, and I
need as much money as I can get my hands on. By providing a service which gives you a
unique look for your diary, I feel justified in charging my small fees for them. Check
out this page for more details on charges. If you don't want to
pay, get a free template, or go to a designer that does free custom designs.
Why won't my older entries switch over to the new layout?
It's a diaryland thing that usually takes a few days to fix itself. If it doesn't, try
going to edit/delete entries, and clicking on each button which edits/deletes the entry,
and then without making any changes click the "Done!" button. This should fix the layout
for that page. Carry on for the others. I know it's time consuming, but if you want it
done, it's the only way.
Do you make guestbook layouts?
I'm afraid not at the moment, as I'm very busy with work during the day and custom designs
after work. During this time I can make custom guestbook layouts on request for $5 a
design. I may in the future make some matching guestbook designs for some of my layouts.
Can I buy one of your templates for my exclusive use?
Yes, you can, although be aware, the older the layout, the more likely it is that other
people are using it already. However, if you do buy a template from me, I will take it
off the templates section, move it to the portfolio, and within a few weeks most people
will have switched their layouts anyway, so it'll be yours! Prices for buying templates
are the same as a custom design.
Can you teach me HTML?
No. Not unless you pay me £100 an hour to do that. I have a fulltime job, and when I'm
not working to earn a pitiful amount, I am doing custom designs which I am also paid for.
I cannot afford to take valuable time out of my schedule to teach you for free. If you
want to learn HTML, then all I can say is go to
Lissa Explains. But don't ask me because I
simply don't have the time. Sorry, but that's about it. I taught myself HTML, so I'm
sure you can do the same.
If you have any questions that aren't answered here, please email me, and I'll do my best to help you.
